The first is the Redfish Rumble:
Redfish Rumble has been reformatted this year to add the challenge of Bass Fishing. Not my normal species but Louisiana is one of those rare places where Salt and Fresh water mix for an explosive combination. So this even includes a stringer of my favorite - redfish. With the additional challenge of adding a bass. If you complete your stringer of 5 Reds and 1 Bass you earn the weight of your reds, the Bass, plus a 1lb bonus! Redfish and Bass are voracious predators so anyone can strike it rich if they find the fish. Come out and get in the mix.
My highest result at the Rumble was 2nd place in 2010 but I'm up for the new challenge. It's an exciting format. I'm ready to rumble!
Second is PaddlePalooza XI:
This is the very first tournament I ever participated in and it's grown from humble beginnings of about 25 anglers to over 200 from 7 states! That year I picked up two measly 23" inch reds in 20+ mph winds but I've had some success since then. I've pulled in a Second place trout, First Place Red and have had two "slams" slip through my fingers as I lost flounder over the side of the boat. It's a real challenging tournament because you never know what the weather will do to you in spring (one year we hit 30mph winds). None the less this one is always a fan favorite because addition to some serious prizes participants are treated to a free meal, receive a captain's bag with a T-shirt, and a great time of fellowship. This one is worth the trip even if you aren't a serious competitor. It is truly a great way to learn the sport by rubbing elbows with kayakers of all stripes from the Pros to the newest Amateur they will all be glad to say "I survived PaddlePalooza"!
